The Joint Manning Group (JMG) composed of Filipino Association for Mariners’ Employment, Inc. (FAME), Filipino Shipowners’ Association (FSA), International Maritime Association of the Philippines (INTERMAP), Philippine Association of Manning Agencies and Ship Managers Inc. (PAMAS), and Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council (PJMCC), the Associated Marine Officers and Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) and the Philippine Inter-island Shipping Association (PISA) successfully organized the 1st half of the Presidential Series last 28 January 2010, 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Maynila Ballroom of the Manila Hotel.

The 1st half of the Series was graciously attended by three (3) of the presidential candidates namely Councilor John Carlos “JC” Delos Reyes, Senator Benigno “Noy Noy” S. Aquino III and Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon. The Series was moderated by veteran TV Commentator, Mr. David Celdran and focused on six (6) broad topics as follows:

1. The Filipino Migrant Workers

2. The Philippine Maritime Industry in general, and in particular

a. Overseas Shipping
b. Domestic Shipping
c. Seafaring Industry

3. State of Maritime Education in the Philippines

4. Good Governance

5. Poverty Alleviation and Population Control

6. Preservation and Protection of the Environment

The industry stakeholders were given a chance to listen to each of the candidates and had a one-on-one session wherein they had more in-depth discussions related to the concerns of the maritime industry and national concerns. The organizers allocated an hour for each of the guest candidates for them to present their plans for the maritime industry and to answer questions from each industry sector.

The Series served as an opportunity for the Philippine Maritime Community to hear first and foremost from the presidential candidates their policies and programs affecting our industry including the welfare of our seafarers. The series also aimed to introduce the maritime industry to the future leader of the country and to give them background of the present state of the industry.

It is also served as an instrument to inform the presidential aspirants on the commitment of the Philippine Maritime Industry to help the Philippine Economy by deploying competent and world class Filipino Seafarers here and abroad.

On the 10th of May 2010 an event that will definitely change the lives of every Filipino and even the scenarios of every industry in the Philippines. The Philippine Maritime Industry is hoping that whoever will be elected as leader of our country will never neglect the industry that contributes to the economy and provides employment to the Filipino seafarers across the globe.
