The 1st Joint General Membership Meeting drew an overwhelming 288 participants from member companies of the 5 associations under the umbrella organization of the Joint Manning Group, Inc. (JMG). These were: the Filipino Association for Mariners Employment, Inc. (FAME), Filipino Shipowners’ Association (FSA), International Maritime Association of the Philippines (INTERMAP), Philippine Association of Manning Agencies & Ship Managers, Inc. (PAMAS) and Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council, Inc. (PJMCC). This meeting was, by far, the biggest of the year and the first joint assembly in years.
The occasion was highlighted by the presence of Hon. Hans Leo J. Cacdac of POEA and Dr. Cynthia Rosuman of DOH. They gave updates on the current trends and issues being addressed by their respective offices. Admin Cacdac stressed major details on the implementation of the MLC 2006 and other industry issues including the Standard Cadet Training Agreement, SRA for Seafarers Center and the proposal to integrate the PSC in airline tickets. Dr. Rosuman, on the other hand, discussed the DOH Administrative Order 0006-2013 or the DOH Guidelines in implementing the Amended Migrant Workers Act of 1995 (R.A. 10022).
On the lighter side, the ANGKLA party list representative Congressman Jesulito Manalo brought in the good news that the industry has now a representation in Congress. He further encouraged the participants to partner with him in bringing the concerns of the seafarers to his attention.
In recognition of newly accepted members of the Associations, JMG and FAME awarded Certificates of Membership to the newly accepted members of the Associations. The meeting was a very timely venue to be informed of progresses, innovations, solutions to problems, and new members. The topics discussed brought clarity, appropriate information, and prospective strategies necessary to overcome challenges ahead.
