Makati, 25 September 2010: 292 shuttlers crowd the 10 courts of Powersmash Badminton Court to contend for 23 Badminton Championship titles to the 5th FAME Inter-manning Badminton Tournament which is so far the largest and only badminton event organized annually for the Philippine maritime industry.

Although the event showcased individual skills as players, in their individual levels of expertise, tried to jump, smash, grunt, and score their way into the finals, there was evidence that it was more of a showcase of company spirit. Companies, as represented by their player-delegates, raised their flags higher as they strive to cheer the hardest, win the most, and bring home the larger share of bacons.

Several key personalities from FAME graced the event with their presence. Mr. Marlon R. Roño, a member of the FAME Board of Directors and Chairman for the committee responsible for the event: the Special Projects & Events Committee expressed his acknowledgments and welcomed the delegates of participating companies. He also joined in the ceremonial toss together with two other members of FAME Board of directors namely Ms. Josephine J. Francisco of NYK-Fil Ship Management Inc., and Engr. Sammuel T. Lim of Great Southern Maritime. Also joining them in the ceremonial toss was Mr. Simon Heo of Parola Maritime Agency Corporation. The ceremonial toss signified the start of the feisty game.

Rockets started swaying at 9:00 in the morning following the opening ceremonies. The courts did not tire as one by one, the mass of players was sifted down only to the best. Despite the arduous heat within the arena, the players vigorously kept with their games determined to give their best in every strike.

After a staggering length of 13 hours, the tournament came into conclusion.

It was ended by the awarding ceremony highlighted by the raffle draw. All thanks to several sponsors like Philippine Airlines, Belo Essentials/Intelligent Skin Care Inc, TIMEX, Smart Communications, and Globe Business Solutions who gave- away fabulous and extravagant merchandise, the raffle draw became a much-awaited moment.

Once again, FAME did not fail to deliver the best sports experience for the maritime industry workers this year. Greater than that, FAME continues to carry out its objective of fostering the virtues of camaraderie, harmony and friendship that glues our industry together. It is by those virtues that we continue to be the finest and strongest economic player in the country.

For the success of the 5th FAME Inter-manning Badminton Tournament, the association acknowledges the unfailing support of the following remaining benefactors: our minor sponsor, Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council Inc. (PJMCC); our patron sponsors: Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), All Japan Seamen's Union Manila, Philippine Seafarers Union (PSU-ITF), Cargo Safeway Inc., Magsaysay MOL Inc., Associated Marine Officers & Seamen’s Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP); and other sponsors like Stolt-Nielsen Philippines Inc., and Rofus Tapa.
