Friday, April 13, 2012, sun’s up on green fields of the Palmer Course, a beautiful scenery and parkland layout with fairways windings, perfect venue for the most anticipated sport event of the summer, the 8th FAME Golf Invitational Tournament held at the Orchard Golf & Country Club, Aguinaldo Highway, Dasmariñas City Cavite. Participants arrived early as registration started at 6:00 am. For this year’s tournament we had 84 participants. At exactly 7:00 in the morning, a shotgun signaled the start of the competition.

Everyone could have been complaining about the heat but the pressure of the summer sun had turned into excitement as everyone got thrilled to take a hit on the ball, in high hopes for a hole.

After almost 5 hours of an exhausting, hole-driven game under the sun, some players were recognized for their exceptional performance and the winners were proclaimed.

For the Tournament Winner Special Awards: Capt. Norie Casalme of Phil. Transmarine Carriers, Inc. won the Loss Gross award while Capt. Tsutomu Harada of Grace Marine & Shipping Corp. grabbed the Low Net award. Mr. Dario R. Alampay of the Joint Manning Group won the Longest Drive award. Capt. Jimmy R. The following are the winners for the Sponsors and Guests Division; Champion - Mr. Paul Schenk of Lufthansa German Airlines, 1st Runner-up - Mr. Manuel Otayza of All Japan Seamen’s Union Manila Welfare Office (Phil.) Corp. (AJSU), and 2nd Runner-up - Mr. Beda Melgar of Mariners’ & Allied Transport Employees Union (MATEU).

The Hole-In-One side event unluckily did not find its winner this year and the awaiting Toyota Innova as a prize went home without its rider despite the reduced yardage as compared to previous years. Hopefully, a lucky player will emerge next year.

For the side contest which is the FAME Ryder Cup, now on its 2nd year, the Philippine Team, composed of Capt. Norie Casalme (Phil. Transmarine Carriers, Inc.), Mr. Edilberto Rivera (Guest of Milmar Crewing, Inc.), and Mr. Jon Judan (Southfield Agencies, Inc.) were tough enough, proving unbeatable, as they defended their title by having emerged as the Champion again for this year’s tournament. The Japanese team, 1st Runner-up, was composed of Capt. Tsutomo Harada (Grace Marine & Shipping Corp.), Mr. Keisuke Sugane (Cargo Safeway, Inc.), and Mr. Shogo Yamada (NYK-Fil). The European team, 2nd Runner-up, was composed of Mr. Kjell Hjartness (C.F. Sharp Crew Management, Inc.), Mr. Nigel Trabshaw (Magsaysay Maritime Corp.), and Mr. Geir Winterness (Magsaysay Maritime Corp.). All remaining teams stayed on their places as awarded last year.
