20 September 2015 - The warm sunshine was up early as if to hint that the 9th FAME Fun Run - “Go Marino Go! Healthy Body, Healthy Mind”, which was also in support and in participation to the celebration of World Maritime Day, was about to get started.

At 5:00 a.m., the Parking 20 of the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City was already filled with overwhelming excitement from more than 4,000 runners who registered in this year’s annual fun run event. The massive crowd consisting of employees, executives, cadets,seafarers and colleagues in the maritime industry together with their families and friends communally started the race at 6:00 a.m. for the 3K, 5K and 10K respectively.

With a total of 4,554 registered runners coming from 98 companies/organizations, this year’s FAME Fun Run was the biggest so far.
The intense heat of the morning sun didn’t stop the excited feet of the thousand runners to complete the race. Even the children and well, pets together with their companions happily reached the finish line. But some runners deserve to be mentioned for they held the fastest running time.

A stiff competition was witnessed in 10K Male Category as top contenders went head to head for the top honour. Hajeh Abing of Cargo Safeway, Inc. who finished with 0:51:19 notched Estelito Hijalga of Phoenix Maritime Corp. by a barely two-second differential, 0:51:21, to win first place.  Herman Elmedorial of Leonis Navigation Company Inc. (0:54:17), Hilven Reantazo of Magsaysay Maritime Corp. (0:55:22) and Francis Magayon of Crewcare, Inc. (0:55:43) completed the top five awardees for the same category. For the 10K Female Category, Mary Joy Oreta of Leonis Navigation Company Inc. topped all challengers with a finish time of 1:11:10. Roxane Maaba Magsaysay Maritime Corp. came in second with 1:18:44 while Ma. Rhaieda Del Agua of Wallem Maritime Services Inc.was in close third with 1:19:41. Aileen Natiola of Southfield Agencies, Inc. and Estrellita Montilla of Career Philippines Shipmanagement Inc. entered the top-five list with 1:20:27 and 1:23:52 respectively.  In 5K Male Category, the top prize was awarded to Herald Brylle Isagan of Magsaysay Maritime Corp. as he finished with 0:25:13. Milton Kino of the Maritime Academy of Asia &the Pacific (MAAP) was not far in the second place with 0:25:22. Completing the top five are representatives from Cargo Safeway, Inc. – Aldi Beloy (026:04), Noe Salcedo Jr. (0:26:24) and Anthony Magnate (0:27:16). For the 5K Female Category, Cleo Bierneza of the Maritime Academy of Asia &the Pacific (MAAP) won the top title with 0:34:56 followed by Josephine Parco of Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc. with 0:36:45. Marilou Gendrala of Seacrest Maritime Management, Inc. was in third place with 0:37:14 while Michelle Orbon of Career Philippines Shipmanagement, Inc. took the fourth spot with 0:38:27. Jaq Labatorio of Dohle Seafront Crewing (Manila), Inc. finished with fifth place with 0:40:01. Scoring just 0:12:38, Paul Pasigen II of the Maritime Academy of Asia &the Pacific (MAAP) outstand the rest of the runners in the 3K Male Category to secure the  top spot. Dave Mark Bercilla of Magsaysay Maritime Corp. who finished with 0:13:19 was close behind at second. Two more runners from the Maritime Academy of Asia &the Pacific (MAAP) joined the top-five list:  Art Joseph Abarondo was at third place with 0:13:28 and Aljon Christian Beler with 0:13:36 was at fifth place. Jem Harold Malinao of Scanmar/Skanfil Maritime Services, Inc. was ranked fourth with 0:13:32. Also from the Maritime Academy of Asia &the Pacific (MAAP), Nellyvette Claire Dela Cruz ruled in the 3K Female Category with a difference of two-second mark over Rochelle Sison of Eastern Doctors Medical Services, Inc. who reached the finish line with 0:17:36. Other runner-up awardees include Juliet Prestosa of Asia Bulk Transport Phils., Inc. who was at third with 0:18:25, Hazel Menor of Scanmar/Skanfil Maritime Services, Inc. who finished with 0:19:25 was fourth and Abigail Murillo of Southfield Agencies, Inc. rounded up the top five with 0:20:19.

The winners were awarded with medals as well as cash prizes. FAME also presented special award for the Biggest Delegation which went to the Magsaysay Maritime Corp. with 643 participants. Another special recognition which aims to inspire all runners to stay fit and active was the Oldest Runner award which was honoured to Mr. Mariano Valess of Albar Shipping & Trading Corp. (80 yrs. old) for the 3K category, C/E Wenifredo Sola of Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council (PJMCC) (71 yrs. old) for the 5K category and Capt. Reynaldo Casareo of Cargo Safeway, Inc. (72 yrs. old) for the 10K category. Truly, the ability to go beyond limits is not measured by age but rather by determination and dedication. They Oldest Runners awardees have proved that even at their age they still run the extra mile.
The awarding was made more fun by giving away of raffle prizes including gift certificates, running accessories and house appliances from FAME and Samsung smart phone courtesy of SMART Communications, Inc.

Winners of major prizes include Mya Sophia Lourie Ubaldo of Barko International, Inc. who won a 32’ inches Samsung LED TV 2015 Model and Earl Jo Solmila of Marlow Navigation Phils., Inc. / United Marine Training Center who took home a brand new Samsung smart phone.  Aside from that, numerous sample products and services from Wert Philippines, Inc., Hovid Inc. Philippines, Intelligent Skin Care, Inc. (Belo) and Western Shipping Southeast Asia, Inc. / WSP Maritime Training Center were distributed and given to the participants.
