Eighty-One (81) people including guests, have attended the General Membership Meeting of the Association on 31st May 2007 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Park Ballroom of Century Park Hotel, P. Ocampo St., Malate, Manila 

Newly elected Presidential Assistant on Maritime Affairs Generoso “Bang” T. Mamaril was the guest speaker who vowed that the Maritime Affairs is a dependable ally geared up to reach out and listen to the needs, issues and concerns of the industry. He said that officers and staff of the Maritime Affairs pledge to work in tandem with all the industry players, the heads and leaders of various organizations such as FAME in ensuring that the best interest of the maritime industry is given the highest priority. 

Meanwhile, chairmen of the different Committees have reported and updated matters being undertaken and to be carried out by their respective committees. Among significant topics that were discussed include the Philippine Manning Convention 2007 to be held on 12-13 November 2007, On-Going Review of MARINA’s SIRB, Review of the AB Wage Rate, Review of the POEA Standard Employment Contract (SEC), On-Going Review of the STCW Code, Panama Update on New Upgraded Courses, and several maritime related matters. 

FAME continues to increase not only its regular member-manning companies but also associate members as it awarded a certificate of membership during the meeting to its newly associate member, Abbakus Medical Diagnostic Services. 

On the other hand, representatives from Smart Link Telecommunications were present and gave short updates to the members about the expansion coverage of Smart Link to reach several areas such as Indian Ocean, Strait of Hormuz and Swiss Canal all the way to Café of Good Hope.
