Last 31 May 2006, the 3rd General Membership of FAME for this year was held at the enjoyable ambiance and overlooking Penthouse of MARC 2000 Tower, 19th Floor, San Andres corner Taft Avenue, Malate Manila. A total of ninety-nine (99) member-companies congregated to the meeting.

The meeting was highlighted by the presence of the Administrator of Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration (OWWA) Marianito D. Roque who updated the general membership on the developments ongoing in OWWA. One particular item that he discussed was the insurance services and rehabilitation program provided by OWWA to the seafarers.

Also present at the meeting were officers from the Microsoft Philippines Marni Tolosa, Solutions Specialist Manager, and Arcy Bartlome, Industry Manager for Public Sector. Mr. Tolosa presented to the membership their program with OWWA entitled, “Follow Me Voice, Communication and Remittance Services.”

Several matters were tackled and the most imperative concern amongst them was the ever-contentious issue on the Supreme Court Decision regarding the 120 days disability claims, which was fully discussed by Atty. Ruben del Rosario of Del Rosario Pandiphil, Inc. This concern made this regular general membership meeting most crucial and exceptional. As the case will have a fatal impact to the maritime industry, the President, Ms. Josephine J. Francisco informed the general membership that FAME together with other Maritime Associations such as PAMAS, PJMCC, INTERMAP, and FSA will file a Motion to Intervene with the Supreme Court considering that the matter at hand will make or break the Philippine Maritime Industry. Understanding its implication, the general membership unanimously agreed and subsequently approved the payment of the contribution to support the intervention.

Moreover, the membership of the Association is evidently increasing. With the additional of two (2) manning companies and one (1) maritime school in the list of the members’ directory, FAME is now comprised of 104 members. At the meeting, the President, together with the other Board of Directors munificently awarded the certificates of membership to Virjen Shipping Corporation, Seacrest Maritime Management, Inc. and, DMMA College of Southern Philippines. The former were accepted as regular members and the former as associate member. The general membership gleefully welcomed them to the Association.
