The world’s most significant manning event, the 7th Asia-Pacific Manning and Training Conference was once again held in Manila last November 8-9, 2006 at the Westin Philippine Plaza Hotel. This event has focused on emerging concept of “Corporate Social Responsibility” in relation to crew welfare and sustainable shipping services. It was organized by the Lloyds List events, a UK-based conference specialist.

LSM delegates meanwhile were also benefited from the presence of twenty-five (25) world industry leaders who have analyzed and reviewed issues affecting the manning of ships and crew training. One such speaker was Professor Capt. Stephen J. Cross, Director of the Maritime Institute Willmem Barentsz Terschelling West in Netherlands, who discussed the latest developments in maritime training and education.

Other notable speakers include: Teekay Marine Services Glasgow Managing Director and Conference Chairman John Adams; Filipino Shipowners Association President Mr. Carlos Salinas; International Maritime Employer’s Committee Secretary General Mr. David Dearsley; and Intertanko Managing Director Dr. Peter Swift.

FAME has his own booth together with other private sectors, local and international. Likewise, members of FAME were accorded special discounted rates. In order to relax the delegates of the conference, FAME invited them to watch the “Singfarer, The Grand Seafarers Singing Competition” for free at the Aliw Theatre held on the night of 09 November 2006, the last day of conference. It was another treat from FAME and Smart Link, with contestants from singing seafarers and their families highlighted with guest singers from Philippine local showbiz.
