Christmas is typically known for exchanging gifts and simple family dinner, but not this year for the Joint Manning Group’s Year-End Get Together and Christmas Party held at the Grand Ballroom of Hyatt Manila Hotel & Casino on 05 December 2008.

It was decided by the heads of FAME, FSA, PAMAS, INTERMAP and PJMCC to turn this year’s Christmas celebration into a Christmas Party-for-a-Cause, wherein children from the charitable institutions, namely Children’s Joy Foundation and Hospicio de San Jose, were the beneficiary of each member’s simple love gift. In return, the lovely kids from the choral groups of these two Foundations rendered heart-warming Christmas carols during the party.

And to make this event more fun and exciting, this year’s theme was taken from one of the most famous symbol of Christmas, the Christmas Tree.

Upon registration, the music of the Rondalla of the children from the Children’s Joy Foundation echoed at the lobby area that was slowly growing into a crowd of green and red. The members and guests came dressed to impress but no one could beat the NYK-FIL Ship Management team with their eye-catchy and unique Christmas tree costumes.

Likewise, JMG was privileged to have different Government Officials and Union Heads to grace the event with their presence namely Presidential Assistant on Maritime Affairs, Hon. Generoso Mamaril; IMMAJ Chairman, Capt. Takao Manji; AMOSUP President, Capt. Gregorio S.Oca; DBP Chairman Patricia Sto. Tomas; USEC-DOTC and OIC-MARINA, Hon. Elena Bautista; TESDA Director General Augusto Syjuco; POEA Directors and the PRC Board of Examiners both from Deck and Engine.

Most especially, the gathering was made more significant with the presence of the DOLE Secretary, Hon. Marianito Roque who gave an inspirational message that congratulated everyone for a job well done and invited everyone to work hand-in-hand to overcome the challenges that the shipping and manning industry will face in the succeeding years.

And then, after the sumptuous dinner, Mr. Marquez led the second part, which is the fun part of the program, in which he made a roll call on every member with the best costume and also those who were not in costume that turned out to be a fund raising portion. Then the Quijano Family ensemble cheerfully showcased their singing flair with different Christmas song renditions that was fully applauded by everyone.

Before the party ended, 10 participants were selected to play Wowowee’s famous game, Hep Hep Hooray that filled the room with the loudest laughs and cheers. Then the Mailbox Band played 60’s and 70’s melodies that made the crowd ecstatic.

JMG is indeed blessed this season by sharing their time and love to the industry and by reaching out to the people who are greatly in need.
