a new SOLUTION for ship management set shore on the Philippines promising breakthroughs in human resource, and materials management problems for manning corporations in the country.

All the way from Bergen, Norway, Onsoft Computer Systems AS (OCS) formally opened its Manila office yesterday. A kick-off was held at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila at 1:30 pm.

The event was participated by some 58 individuals representing various maritime-involved agencies. It was also graced with the presence of Norwegian Ambassador Ståle Risa and Rear-Admiral Adonis Donato of FAME.

On his message, Amb. Ståle Risa impressed that Norway and Philippines have a very strong link in global business specially in the maritime industry. “We (Norway) are pleased that we have one more solid and exciting enterprise in the country…OCS will further strengthen the Norwegian footprint and strengthen the maritime link between Norway and Philippines,” said the ambassador.

OCS is a “software house for the maritime industry.” It has developed comprehensive solutions to manage a variety of processes like crew planning, competence management, travel management, training administration, multinational payroll, planned maintenance, stock movement and rentals, quality and risk assessment, etc. This myriad of processes was divided into three (3) software suites namely OCS HR, OCS MAISY, and OCS PROMASTER.

As for Philippine (Manila) context, OCS is strongly endorsing the OCS HR: a solution for vessel-crew management and global payroll. Said suite is claimed to be the most complete crew management and payroll solutions in the market. It handles all possible HR processes in ‘one complete, integrated system based on one central database containing all personnel data.’

“We have customers saying that this module save them 2 to 3 man-years for doing HR manually,” said OCS Sales Director Karl Johan Kirkebø.

OCS boasts of a software developed in ‘close cooperation with customers, and their combined best practices.’ Ms. Trine Hagen: OCS Owners’ Representative said that the software should be able to understand the user’s needs and should be able to provide efficiency.

The program was centered on a couple of presentations about the company and their product line. Mr. Hans Petter Torsvik, Managing Director for OCS, briefly introduced the company and its staff. It was followed by the presentation of OCS Software and Modules delivered by OCS Key Account Manager, Mr. Erik Alkaser. The kick-off commenced at 4:30pm following a buffet to mark the celebration.
