2020 has been a year of uncertainty. With the COVID-19 pandemic that swept the entire world, we are indeed sailing through unchartered territories.
The COVID-19 crisis has posed an unprecedented disruption not only to our individual lives, but more importantly to the global economy and world trade and has since considered as one of the greatest economic challenges of this century. The collapse of millions of small to medium scale businesses around the world and temporary halting and/or slowdown of shipping operations forced quite a number of manning and shipping companies to temporarily or permanently shut down, resulting to unemployment of thousands of seafarers due to deployment challenges.
Ever since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, FAME has been at the forefront in its efforts to coordinate with the government to establish green lane protocols for crew change that will effectively protect the life and health of our Filipino seafarers while still securing their positions onboards. But this is a fight, not only by the government or the maritime and manning stakeholders but by all of us. We have to step up and scale our unified efforts to save our valued industry.
We can change the route of this current pandemic and navigate the future of the maritime sector if we do not let the threat of this coronavirus control us. Rest assured that FAME will continue to serve its members and the entire manning and shipping industry in this perilous journey.
Let us continue to be responsible and help each other. Smooth seas are ahead of us.
