FAME Recognized for Vaccination Efforts

FAME, along with the other stakeholders, was recognized by MARINA during its Papupugay at Pasasalamat - a Vaccination TWG Recognition Rites and Deactivation Ceremony held on 12 April 2022 for its vaccination efforts for the Filipino seafarers, especially during the height of the pandemic.  The plaque of appreciation was received by FAME President, Capt. Gaudencio "Jess" Morales. FAME Director Mr. Marlon Roño, was likewise honored during the event for the same initiatives.

In his message, MARINA Administrator Empedrad conveyed his admiration to all the Filipino seafarers who have remained resilient and have continued to keep the global economy running afloat despite the uncertainties and challenges.

President Duterte announces in his late night address that Seafarers will be given Western/American vaccine brand "by group" as the specific vaccine brand is "sine qua non" or absolutely indispensable and necessary for SEAFARERS to board their ships and to be employed. FAME and the Joint Manning Group (JMG) would like to thank the labor groups headed by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), Philippine Seafarers Union (PSU), Associated Marine Officers & Seamen's Union of the Philippines (AMOSUP) and especially TUCP Partylist Representative Raymond Democrito C. SEAFARERS ARE KEY WORKERS

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the annual Day of the Seafarer, and while it may be a different kind of celebration this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Filipino seafarers deserve nothing less of respect and gratitude for the hard work and sacrifices they put especially during this unprecedented time.

Seafarers have always been at the frontline to ensure the flow of vital goods and commodities, more so during this current pandemic. Our “modern day heroes” brave the toughest situations at sea, and now they are faced with the terrifying invisible enemy that is the coronavirus, which has infected thousands of seafarers and put major risk at the global manning and seafaring industry.

We at FAME, together with the other sectors of the Philippine Maritime Industry, join the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in recognizing seafarers as key workers, and to call for authorities to provide them with the support, assistance and protection while they continue to provide their essential services to keep world trade moving.

To all Filipino seafarers around the globe, and all seafarers of different race and color, thank you and we salute you!

As the world today fights the pandemic Corona virus, they are also on the front line, professionally doing their job to make sure goods are delivered in every part of the world where it is needed. They too are risking their lives, sacrificing to be away from their families to ensure that the world’s trade continues. 90% is carried on ships.
